Beauty
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” A wonderful saying, but is it something we should live by? What is beauty, and how does it tie into our own lives? Well, God has given us an answer to this, and has many ways for us to live our lives with beauty in them.
Psalm 27:4 says “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” This may seem kind of confusing about how it shows us how to live in beauty, but we’ll break that down.
David tells us his one true desire: to view God’s beauty for every day of his life. David isn’t talking about the physical beauty of the Lord, but of His holiness and presence. The beauty of the world is fleeting, but the beauty of God is neverending. It brings peace and transformation to our lives, and spiritual intimacy.
“To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord” is an act of worship and adoration. We worship Him because He is beautiful, and He is perfect in all things. Worshiping Him will reorient our hearts to be more like Him.
In our own lives, it’s easy to become bogged down by the negativity of the world, but instead, we should look for God’s beauty in every part of our lives. Take a moment to breathe in the air, or feel the sun on your face. If you’re washing the dishes, feel the water running onto your hands. When we surround ourselves in the beauty of God, instead of the negativity of the world, we become more beautiful.
When we seek out the beauty of God, we have less time to search for the beauty of the world. In doing this, we become more godly people, and less drawn to the desires of the flesh. We look to God more, and find ourselves acting more like Him. Seeing the beauty around us will change our views from seeing only the worst of the world to seeing the hope and light that God brings us.
The beauty of the Lord is not just something we witness—it’s something that changes us. It shapes who we become. When we stop to see the beauty of God, we become more like Him. We are invited to worship, and live with more peace and joy in our lives. I hope you have a wonderful week, and God bless!
