Satisfaction

I’ve often heard people say that all they want in life is to be satisfied. But what if that satisfaction is what is stunting their growth?

Luke 12:19 brings this up excellently, saying “And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.’” The rich man has everything, and his plan is simple: relax. Jesus, however, calls him a fool. He does this not because he is satisfied, but because of the reason for that satisfaction: comfort instead of his calling.

We are allowed to be satisfied with ourselves, as long as it leads to godliness in our lives. We can be satisfied with the knowledge that we are saved, for instance. We can be satisfied knowing that we are supported by Christ.

However, we should not be satisfied by our money, or our jobs, or our houses. Anything we have here is only worldly, and therefore does not help us in Heaven. We should be satisfied when we are living like Christ. We should be ambitious, not for more money or accolades, but for a deeper relationship with God.

Jesus doesn’t call us to a passive life. He calls us to take up our cross daily. Not to rest on what we’ve done, but to reach for what’s ahead. So maybe the goal isn’t to “be satisfied,” but to stay spiritually hungry, because there’s always more of God to discover. Have a wonderful week, and God bless!
