A Look in the Mirror - Week 3

Looking at confusion as something more than a passive lack of understanding, and instead as an aggressive attacker of faith, I’ve realized some things that I’ve been doing in my life that are harmful.

One of the big things that I misunderstood for a long time was that Christians don’t doubt God. I would just nod along, because it made sense at the time, but later I would wonder how it made sense to blindly trust everything happening. For a long time, I internalized that, and I just pushed aside my doubt about it, ironically.

Through my journey, I’ve learned of plenty of biblical heroes who did doubt God. Recognizing when something sounds good, but then looking more into it and realizing that it isn’t is important in our faith. Analysis kills the chance for us to misinterpret God’s Word. Doubt is a natural part of life, but trusting in God is important, regardless of the doubt. Without further analyzing, I would have assumed that I was supposed to trust everything blindly, which may have led me down a terrible path in my own faith.

In this week’s devotional, we read from Jeremiah 3:25, which says “Let us lie down in our shame, and let our disgrace cover us. We have sinned against the Lord our God, both we and our ancestors; from our youth till this day we have not obeyed the Lord our God.” When we stop seeing clearly, we begin to disobey God and His will. In our analysis of God’s plan and Word, we can cut through the confusion.

This week, look for the confusion in your own beliefs. I will be looking for other ideas that I have about faith, and challenging them in scripture. When we find them, I invite us to pray for clarity and guidance about the ideas. We cannot understand alone, we need God. I hope you have a wonderful week, and God bless!
