Analysis

A while back, I bought a car. Now, I didn’t go out, see a single car, and buy it immediately. Instead, I took time, researched, asked people, and thought through my choices, until landing on the car that I chose. A lot goes into those big decisions in our lives, whether a car, house, or job. It can also be something less impactful that we still think deeply about, like whether to have a sandwich or salad for lunch.

So why, then, if we take so much time to think about those things shouldn’t we apply the same mindset to our faith? 2 Timothy 2:15 says “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” Our lives as Christians aren’t only about praying, reading the Bible, and being kind.

We should take the time to analyze the world around us. We should read the Bible and take the time to understand what God is telling us, and how to apply that to our lives. Take time to understand what He is really saying, not what we want Him to be saying.

In a world so focused on the surface, God values depth of thought and character. This goes beyond memorizing verses, and instead tells us to feel the richness that God intends for us to feel through His word. This week, I invite you to take one verse of the Bible, to focus on it, cross reference it, look for surrounding context, and truly understand it. Write down what you find, how you feel, and what you think it means to you. Have a wonderful week, and God bless.
