A Look in the Mirror - Week 4
After the devotional this week, I got to thinking. It’s really easy to look for the negativity in the world, but it can be very difficult to find beauty every day.
David said in the Psalm that he wanted above everything else to see the beauty of God every day. This is something we can all achieve, if we know where to look.
Taking time to reflect and spend time looking at the beauty in the world, I realized something extremely important for my own understanding of beauty. I recently spent some time out and about with my partner, which gave me ample time to go out into the world and relax some.
During my time with her, we went places like the zoo, and shopping in thrift stores. Looking at these places with a lens of godly beauty allowed me to see a side of things that otherwise would have been left invisible to me. For instance, the way my partner’s face lit up when we saw a one of a kind dish set.
Seeing something as simple as a bug on the side of the building where I work reminded me of God’s creativity. If I wasn’t looking for beauty in life, I wouldn’t be able to truly appreciate those little things. Seeing these things is important in all of our lives, so we can remember the good in life.
What I’m not saying is that we should ignore the bad in the world. There is plenty of bad, and we should pay attention to it. However, when we allow that bad to rule our lives, then we become less able to see the beauty that God has set before us.
At the end of the day, beauty isn’t something defined by one person, but is defined by God’s character and creation, and it is up to us as His children to seek out that beauty and praise Him for it.
So this week, let’s look closely at the mundane, and ask God to reveal His beauty through it. You might be surprised by what you find. Have a great week, and God bless!
